Please join us for a capital punishment debate and discussion with Minnesota attorney Steve Kaplan and Deputy Pima County Attorney Rick Unklesbay.
The event is in Room 118 and will begin at 5:30. (No food will be served.)
Steve Kaplan is senior of counsel to the Minneapolis law firm of Fredrikson & Byron, P.A. Prior to entering private practice in Minnesota in 1980, he was an associate with a law firm in Hartford, Connecticut and a trial attorney with the Department of Justice Tax Division in Washington, D.C. Steve is a graduate of Bowdoin College and the University of Chicago Law School. He currently serves on the board of the Innocence Project of Minnesota.
Rick Unklesbay has served the citizens of Pima County as a Deputy County Attorney for over 30 years. He is both a graduate of the University of Arizona Law School and an adjunct professor. He is a member of the American College of Trial lawyers and has received recognition from the Association of Government Attorneys in Capital Litigation. During his career, he has prosecuted over 100 homicides. In 2010, Rick retired from full-time practice and has worked part time ever since. He still prosecutes capital cases and is the chief of the Conviction Integrity Unit.

Please join us for an exceptional meeting with Louisiana Death Row exoneree Damon Thibodeaux and his attorney Steve Kaplan. In September 2012, Damon became the nation’s 141st death row exoneree since 1973.
From 2001 through 2012, Steve Kaplan and the Fredrikson firm worked as post-conviction counsel, along with the Capital Post-Conviction Project of Louisiana and the Innocence Project of New York, for Damon. Damon was exonerated and released in Louisiana in late September 2012.
