Leigh Sprague, “Stealing $10 Million from a Russian Oligarch: A Former Lawyer’s Story”

On Thursday, Jan. 31st, the Program on Criminal Law and Policy will host Leigh Sprague, a former lawyer who stole $10 million from his Russian oligarch client and was later prosecuted, convicted, and incarcerated for that crime. Sprague, a Columbia Law grad, now is trying to make amends for his misconduct by sharing his compelling story of corruption, greed, addiction, punishment, and recovery, as a cautionary tale for future lawyers. Hank Shea, a former federal prosecutor and current Professor of Practice at the U of A, will moderate the presentation.

The event will be held in room 164 and will start at 12:15pm. Lunch will be served at noon.

Mike Storie, Officer Involved Shootings

PCLP is proud to host Mike Storie, who will give a presentation titled, “Officer Involved Shootings.”

Mike Storie is a private defense attorney who specializes in representing law enforcement officers. Since 2012, Mike has been Lead Legal Counsel for the Combined Law Enforcement Associations of Arizona. Mike represents probation, corrections, and law enforcement officers in administrative disciplinary appeal hearings. He has also spoken on critical incidents and use of force issues at training seminars and universities.

We will meet in room 118 and pizza will be served at noon. We hope to see you there!

Amanda Bynum, "Perspectives on Competencies in Criminal Defense Practice"

PCLP is proud to host Amanda Bynum, who will give a presentation titled, “Perspectives on Competencies in Criminal Defense Practice.

Amanda Bynum is a Tucson native with an undergraduate degree in political science from the University of Arizona. She is a 2009 graduate of the University of Arizona James E. Rogers College of Law, where she earned a Certificate in Criminal Law and Policy. Amanda was an associate attorney in a private Arizona law firm practicing criminal defense from 2010-2012 before practicing as a felony trial lawyer at the Pima County Public Defender from 2012-2017. Amanda created and developed an ongoing CLE program for the Public Defender's Office in 2016 and led the Criminal Defense Clinic from 2016-2017.
