12:00-1:15 PM
Room 168
At 15 years old, Manny Mejias was convicted of first-degree murder and served a 20-year prison sentence. He now works for Pima County, connecting formerly incarcerated individuals with the resources they need to reintegrate into society. He will speak on the trauma inflicted in the prison system not only to inmates but to all that the system touches.
Before the event, Manny is hoping that the audience will read and react to the attached article that he wrote. Mejias_PTSD
There are also three questions he would like you to think about and respond to before attending the event:
- Why do we send people to prison?
- Who do we send to prison?
- Does the prison system work as intended? Why or Why not?
This is not mandatory, but will be helpful in having a productive and engaged discussion.
The event will be held in room 168. Pizza will be served at noon.
