Ashley Adams, staff attorney at the Equal Justice Initiative (EJI) will take us through a history of racial injustice as it relates to criminal justice reform in the United States. She will also discuss EJI's work of ending mass incarceration, eliminating excessive punishment, and combating the practice of sentencing minors to adult prisons. Prior to joining EJI in 2017, Ms. Adams was an Assistant Public Defender and a District Court Supervisor for the Tuscaloosa County Office of Public Defender, represented indigent clients as a trial attorney with Jefferson County Public Defender’s Community Law Office in Birmingham, Alabama, and conducted civil litigation as an associate attorney at Gaines Gault Hendrix, P.C., in Birmingham.
